Menopause, fibroids, PMS, menstruation problems, infertility... For many women, these words carry frustration, fear, or even shame. We’re often taught that our hormones are unpredictable - that pain, mood swings, or exhaustion are “just part of being a woman”...
But according to Ayurveda, nothing about womanhood is random or broken.
Every change, every symptom, every cycle is part of a much larger, intelligent rhythm, one that mirrors the elements of nature and the evolution of your soul.
Your body is not betraying you - it’s communicating with you.
Menopause is NOT a disorder!
As you may know, your original constitution never changes. It’s the unique combination of the five elements (ether, air, fire, water, earth) you were born with. You can only become imbalanced in certain elements, but your core doesn’t shift.
However, your dominant elemental energy does change as you move through life. Ayurveda describes three main life stages:
Kapha stage (birth to puberty): growth & building - earth and water dominate.
Pitta stage (puberty to midlife): transformation & fertility - fire and water awaken.
Vata stage (midlife and beyond): lightness, creativity & wisdom - air and ether take the lead.
Menopause is essentially the transition stage between the Pitta and Vata stages and is reffered to as the "last flame of the candle" when heat (Pitta element) is being pushed out of the body, giving spece to more lightness and coldness (Vata element).
Thus, women experience symptoms like hot flashes, migraines, irritation etc. But also some weight gain - why? Because our bodies recognize the extra dryness and want to protect us from it by increasing the moisture element (Kapha).
Nature is incredible, isn't it?
Instead of understanding that these shifts are completely natural, some women turn towards hormone replacement therapies (HRT) without doing anything else to support their bodies through this sacred transition.
And there is so much that can be done using lifestyle, dietary and herbal tools that will aim to balance all those transitioning elements, naturally! :)
Common doesn't mean normal - PMS and menstrual pain
Painful periods and PMS are common, but they’re not normal.
Pain means the flow of the Vata element has been disturbed. In Ayurveda, Vata governs all movement - including hormonal flow.
When Vata becomes disturbed, it affects the reproductive system, creating not onlyYoni Rogas (gynecological disorders) and Shukra Doshas (reproductive tissue imbalances), but also causing PMS and menstrual pain.
That’s why the first step in any feminine healing journey is Vata balance — followed by addressing secondary imbalances, and finally, rejuvenation (Rasayana) to nourish the reproductive area.
Irregular meals, cold foods, stress, or lack of rest all aggravate Vata - creating cramps, mood swings, and fatigue. Thus, following the "like increases like an opposites balance each other out" principle, the Ayurvedic approach focuses on restoring warmth, rhythm, and nourishment, rather than suppressing the symptoms.
PCOS - diverse root causes call for diverse healing methods
From the Western view, PCOS has “no clear cause.” Doctors often speak of insulin resistance, elevated androgens, or genetics, but none of these explain why the imbalance began.
Ayurveda looks deeper.
PCOS arises from weak digestive fire, mental overstimulation, inflammation, and Vata–Kapha imbalance caused by irregular routines, pressure, or inadequate nutrition.
There are two main Ayurvedic types of PCOS:
Kapha-type PCOS: stagnation, weight gain, cystic tendencies → needs lightening and detoxifying.
Vata-type PCOS: irregular cycles, anxiety, low body weight → needs nourishment and grounding.
Yet, in the West, both are treated the same way - often with the contraceptive pill - which suppresses symptoms but doesn’t address the root cause. Moreover, the pill changes the balance of estrogen and progesterone (increasing progesterone and decreasing estrogen). This results in the egg not being released as the feedback mechanism to the brain is interrupted.
If this continues long term, the feedback mechanism can be disrupted permanently.
My focus is on rekindling the digestive fire, clearing toxic buildup, and restoring flow with warmth, movement, and consistency - both in food and in daily rhythm.
Infertility
In Western medicine, infertility is often treated as a mechanical or hormonal issue - something to be solved through stimulation, intervention, or replacement. The focus usually rests on the reproductive organs or hormone levels: are the eggs maturing, is ovulation happening, is the sperm count high enough?
Yet even when everything looks “normal” on paper, conception may still not happen - and that’s where Ayurveda brings in a much deeper lens.
In Ayurveda, fertility is not simply about the union of sperm and egg. It's the result of balance and nourishment on every level: physical, mental, and emotional.
When conception is desired, preparation is everything.
We detoxify, strengthen digestion, balance the doshas, and make the soil fertile — just as you would prepare the earth before planting a seed :) The body must feel safe, nourished, and ready to create new life.
Emotionally, fertility is closely connected to the energy of receiving - to softness, surrender, and the ability to let go of control. Many women today live in constant “doing mode,” carrying subtle tension, fear of time, or self-judgment about their bodies. This inner pressure can create Vata and Pitta imbalances, blocking the natural flow of life energy through the reproductive tissues.
Ayurveda teaches that when the body, mind, and spirit are in harmony - when the woman feels grounded, open, and emotionally held - fertility arises naturally. It’s not forced; it’s allowed.
True preparation for conception begins with creating space for balance, safety, and nourishment, both within the womb and within the heart.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis is deeply connected to Pitta - the fire element.
Too much heat accumulates in the uterus instead of staying in the gut, leading to inflammation, pain, and emotional intensity.
Reducing Pitta is essential: cooling the body, calming the mind, and redirecting that inner fire toward digestion rather than destruction.
The modern approach often tries to switch off hormones, but endometriosis isn’t simply hormonal - it’s also inflammatory, calling for deeper healing on physical and emotional levels.
Fibroids
Fibroids carry both physical and emotional roots.
They often arise when Kapha (structure, tissue) is suppressed by Pitta or Vata, leading to overgrowths. Here, I focus on gentle cleansing, supporting the liver and lymph, and reducing heaviness through lighter, warming, detoxifying meals and herbs.
Emotionally, fibroids are tied to suppressed desires, expectations around motherhood, or karmic imprints related to creation and nurturing.
I really don't see fibroids as pathology, but as the body expressing what the heart hasn’t released.
Your hormonal challenges are more complex than a "one-size-fits-all" prescription!
From PMS and PCOS to endometriosis, fibroids, infertility, or menopause - these are not isolated problems, but different expressions of imbalance in the same intelligent system.
In Ayurveda, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach: Two women with the same diagnosis can have entirely different root causes - one rooted in Vata depletion, another in Pitta inflammation, and another in Kapha stagnation. Their stories, emotions, and lifestyles are unique, and so their healing must be too.
Let's question. Let's dig out why the imbalance appeared in the first place!
Is your digestion weak? Is your nervous system overactive? Is there suppressed emotion, unprocessed grief, or an unmet desire that’s been stored in the reproductive space?
The feminine body speaks through rhythm, emotion, and flow. When we silence its messages, symptoms get louder. But when we listen - with curiosity, compassion, and the right nourishment - healing begins to unfold naturally.
This is why no protocol or supplement can replace one-on-one guidance! :)
Each woman carries her own combination of elements, her own karmic patterns, her own life rhythm. To restore balance, we must understand her whole story. And this is exactly what I do in my 1:1 work with women! :)
